So happy about my GCSE results! (actually i think i'm still a bit in shock) - I got A*s on English literature, art, ICT, history and textiles which was amazing! what also amazed me was on the English lit I actually got 200/200.. full marks o.o
The rest were solid As and Bs which was really nice too :) So pleased!
Anyway like I said I have a sketchbook project which Im getting slowly through, so going to post up some work from there.

Just an update on whats going on at the moment.

Firstly, went on a tryout day for college next year - everything was fantastic! I am looking forward to it so much. The art teacher gave us a small project, which was to fill a sketchbook full of direct observations, plants and so on. Was very glad to have been given some kind of occupation over the next 6 weeks to at least keep me a bit busy. She and all the other teachers were really nice :)

Secondly, I've been given a commission to work on which will take me a few weeks, will be posting progress pics up here hopefully too.

For now, though, here are some close ups of an old picture.

So today we finished our 'official' school timetable. No more lessons! But now we have a bit of a revision timetable to prepare for the exams. After that we only come in to finish our exams. Its all getting so hectic! Feeling excited, nervous, under pressure at the same time. Also, a bit sad, as I won't be seeing a lot of my classmates much again..

Anyway, here are a few closes of my latest piece. Won't be finishing anything for a while now, as i have so much else to do.

Havent updated here in months! No time these days -_- Anyways, its now April and I've been pretty busy with my art stuff. My final art exam is in two days, which I have prepared for a lot. Just got a bit to finish off before the big day (or should I say, dayS...) I might get round to photographing a bit of it, if anyone should wish to see. Its more that I can record it for myself, really. Anyway, couple of close ups of my latest piece, the Siamese cat commission for my aunt. I also have another piece that is about 80% done, but might not get round to finishing until the end of the week when the exam is all over. Can't wait until I finish school, and have a whole 9 weeks off to paint and draw to my hearts content :)

Ordering day

Wooohooo!
Today is the day I get to order my Macbook. Well this very night actually, in a minute. Then I have to wait until 10.00 when my mom gets home to enter her card details, and transfer my savings over to her.
Its all very complicated business!
But.. it means my macbook will arrive in... 3 DAYS! I'm so excited :):) even though im not actually allowed it until Christmas.. its presence in the house will satisfy me until then xD
More news! I've finished prep sheet no1 of my art exam - Wings and Feathers. Also have a few commissions.. so atm im working on:
2nd exam prep sheet
Commission 1 - ali davenport's requested piture (which is about 40% done!)
Commission 2 - picture requested by my nan (just starting to sketch it up)
I hope to get the two commissions finished all very soon. Infact, the prep work too.. deadline is 18th Dec.
I think I can pull it off though :)

Macbook = looks promising!

Things are going well, and it looks like i'm well on my way to getting my macbook i've been hoping for for ages! It's looking like its going to cost me around £750, so...

-I've saved up £230 so far all on my own!
-I'm hoping to get a further £50-150 pounds from a competition I entered (depending on if I win or come runner up, fingers crossed!)
-My nan promises to donate about half the money towards it, £300-350 (woo, thanks nannus!!)
-My aunty has promised to dontae £100 towards it! (thanks Janny! :D:D)
-I am hoping to make a bit more from selling old stuff - could come to about £200 at the very best.

So that looks like about... £500 if i'm really unlucky.
....but if i'm ultra lucky, win the competition and sell the majority of my old stuff, I could make up to ............£880!!!!!
(which means, Mom, Nan and Jan, you can have some back if theres that much leftover!! xD)
But lets just bet on the £500 for now...
... Ok... we'll bet on £700, the very basic price for a mac. Just gotta hope for it! 8D

Anyways, gotta go, see you guys later!

WIP

So, as I promised here's my latest Work in Progress. In stages;

1. First stages, picking out the darks, light and colours of the basic facial features.

3. Some feather work on the head, moving downwards..

4. Untill I move down onto the bigger, lower feathers of the body (sorry this picture isn't as good)

And this is where I am right now. Still a lot to work on, and haven't decided what kind of background (if at all?) I should put in yet.
I'm pretty happy with it so far though :)

Sorry there's no sketches tonight. I frankly can't be bothered.. tired from this morning's early start and mind-numbing day working in an office. Remind me NEVER to take an office job.. >_<

Anyway, gotta be off now, going out tonight :]

At work...

I'm at work at the moment.. taking some time out of entering data into a database [actually finished what im supposed to be doing.. and cant be bothered to ask for more work xDD].. browsing dA and booored to hell. Had a chance to catch up on some comments/deviations though.

Anywaaay.. I have some new art in store! I have one WIP, which I may just post a sneak peak of up here ;), other personal stuff (scraps and sketches)... PLUS a commission on the go! So all's going pretty well. Oh, and I also have my second and final practise art exam before the real thing. Got the paper now, I've got yonks to prep for it though. It's still coursework too, so I want to try hard on it.
Anyway, the theme is yet to be revealed (aka, decided by me xD), but I will think it over and post it on dA. I maaay even get a poll up and running if you guys wanna help me ;)

Well.. I'd better get back to work now. I will post later on with a WIP and possibly couple of sketches.. we'll see.

Well, after a long while not posting over the summer, I realised I haven't actually updated on my GCSE art exam results.

My work got an A grade :] I was very happy with it, knowing that it was only three marks off an A* grade too. Seeing as our teacher gave us the holidays to 'improve' upon our final piece, as it really is only coursework, so its 'allowed', I decided to try and jump up those 3 extra marks to get the best grade possible.

There was only a few things to add and tweak here and there to get the grade anyway. So the final (and improved) piece will be up later today, after spending the holidays working on (and various other pieces of coursework.. that have totally tired me out o_o) it, I can pretty much say im fully satisfied with it now :)

So that's coming soon. Aha, and my latest endevour is saving up enough money for a new laptop.. I'm hoping for a Macbook!

I've been snooping around the Apple website and various other ones and it seems to look like a brilliant computer, Ive always wanted a Mac, and the white Macbook is just so small and beautiful! Gosh, I'm such a sucker for new, shiny gadgets, its like a dream come true xDD

This also means I'm going to have to find myself a decent saturday job to pay on the monthly thing, over about 2 years.. o_o Not so bad, i suppose.. Also, I'd like to make lots of money from commissions if possible, so don't be afraid to ask me if you want anything, my prices are reasonable, and can be negotiated!

Anyway, watch for updates on the exam piece, and new art up soon on dA :]

Its all finished, thank the lord! Any longer and I would have dieed or boredom or dehydration..
I was so pleased with my piece though, I feel I did everything I wanted to and it turned out just right. So hopes I'm going to get a decent mark for it. I really didn't think it would turn out to be anything good at the start, I was actually really nervous (and I don't even get nervous in normal exams o_o) but I suppose I just put my mind to what I was doing. So thats all good.
As I have said, as SOON as I get this piece back its going straight up on dA and here. No matter what, I'm not going to let the school or exam board steal it!

Hehe, its my birthday on Saturday too. Fun fun all around, going on shopping trip with my mother, have a nice brew and a chat in the cafe, than come back home for a bit and go out for a meal with my family and boyfriend. Will be great :D Anyways, now I'm going off the relax for a bit!!

Prep sheet 2 - Yang

So, this is the 'Yang' prep sheet. Well it's the 'yang' parts, and it also has a bit about the relationship between Yin-Yang and the Chinese dragon, to kind of move on my ideas to the final piece.

Took a quick snap of it last night before I took it in to school today for my exam. The exam was soo exhausting, but today I managed to get about 70% of it done, so tomorrow i'm going to sit back a bit a take my time in the details. Quite happy with the piece so far though :) Bit small, but I wasn't allowed any bigger paper.
If I get the chance I'm going to submit it onto dA and here, but it might be a while as it has to be marked and seen by the moderator first. So maybe more art soon, got lots going right at the moment, keep an eye out on my dA!

Prep sheet 1 - Yang

So this prep sheet is based around one element of the Yin-Yang, the Yang. I finished it a few days ago, and am now working crazily trying to get the second one done.

Eeek, its getting towards the end of the holidays! Today I'm going out with some friends, and It will have to be the last time in about 2 weeks if I want to get this project done -_-
Nonetheless, I'm doing OK on it. I spent yesterday doing two background sheets, one peaceful and one darker. Also been developing my ideas, and I've decided to draw two Chinese dragons in a Yin-Yang kind of composition, using elements of my ideas developed across to the final piece. I will have

one prep sheet on Yin, showing parts of Chinese rural, peaceful life,

and one prep sheet on Yang showing elements of fighting, war, etc. I've done most of the Yin sheet, and hoping to get some of the Yang done before Monday.

Both sheets will explore the role of the Chinese dragon as a symbol in Chinese culture, then it all connects and develops into the final piece. So I'm quite happy with all the ideas. Its just making the time to complete it all.

A little update on the progress of my GCSE art project titled 'Symbols for design and decoration'. Its actually for an exam, I have 6 weeks to complete my the preparation work, and then do my final piece in the 10 hour exam. It was for a topic on ethnic art and culture, so I chose to look at Chinese dragons as a symbol for design or decoration in China. So far I have:
-Planning worked out for 2 A2 prep sheets
-3 drawings: One interpretation of another artist's work, one direct observation drawing and one drawing from a secondary source.
Here are those 3 drawings I have completed so far, in that order:

(Eeek. Haven't quite finished the last scales yet xD. Dont worry. Ill get round to it... *whistles*... :] )

No, wasn't drawn from the photo (otherwise the angle would be screwed up o_O..) Photo is just there to give you an idea. Its a chess piece (the king :P) and if you look, theres little Chinese dragons on the throne. Now wasn't I clever to notice that in my own home, thank God I did, or there would be NO direct observation drawings in my project at all.. =[

I am not overly happy with this piece - It is quite obvious I can do much better. Being honest I didn't put as much effort into it as I could. But I am still satisfied with it to go into my work, and I think it will 'do' for its purpose.

This one can also be seen in my dA gallery (hence that watermark - I'm always a bit more cautious with dA submissions). I'm happy with this - did it almost in one sitting, and I was on a roll, haha :P Took about 4 hours in total. Its done our cheap printer paper, which I found great to work with for some reason! Dunno, something about the fact I can get more detail in, its quite smooth and almost 'shiny' (I know, sounds awful!). Used B pencil to map it out, then 2B, 4B and 6B Progressively.

So, feel im getting on OK with that. Plan to have 1 prep sheet done in half the prep time (6 weeks), so that would be 1 week after half term, in 2 weeks' time. Wouldn't sound like a tricky target to meet if I didn't have so many exams to revise for and do. English and science are killing me, plus technology deadlines. I will manage, hopefully.
Well, I can't wait for Friday. Going down to Wheaton Aston to a 'music festival gig thing', and hopefully camping there too. Will be fun, and its also a rare occasion where I get to meet up with one of my closest friends - Lizzy, who I haven't seen in AGES! :] Love that girl, and missed her loads over the past 3 months. So that will be great.

Anyway, now I'm gonna make myself a brew and settle down into bed for Desperate Housewives (what a familiar scenario!) I do love that show - believe me, I don't want to be hooked, but I unfortunatley am. Even got my Mother into it now, she thinks she's so cool, tehehe xD

Saturday Afternoon... Bleeh

Yep. Its saturday afternoon... and raining :[ Always makes me feel a bit miserable. Awh well. Today, my moms partner (more of a step-dad really) is moving back in again :] They've been in and out of the house getting his stuff together, and now everyone's settled back in. I do like having him around, feels more like a 'family'. although, he is always popping round anyway, so it isn't see different.

Feeling extremley tired today.. well, actually, more like lazy. Baha, all I've done is drink tea, read some books and stare at my computer screen until 2 o'clock, (Although I have updated my layout, whoop-de-doo) 8-). Plan to be getting round to some revision/coursework/more art prep soon. Not yet decided which :] Feeling in a creative mood though, not particularly wanting to drown that out with science revision -_- Might post later, actually. Dig out some sketches, update on how I've got on with my exam prep, dunno.
Eeek, I've got my English speaking and listening exam on Monday O_O Personally, I don't think its much to do with English language - If I wanted Drama, I would have taken it. Nonetheless, I've got to do reasonably well if I don't want to drag my grade down >_< I'm normally quite ok with performing... I'm just not very good at acting (especially improvising!). Meh, what shall be shall have to be.

Aaaaanyway.. I better go and DO something. Haha x)

Tilly - Progress

Some progress pictures of my entry to the Young Illustrators Competition, the title I'm illustrating for is 'Tilly the Talking, Dancing Circus Horse'. I'm using watercolour primarily, but will probably end up using a bit of coloured pencil too. I'm hoping to win some money out of this as I'm starting to et serious about saving up for when I leave school. Additionally, I have also started (very loosely) accepting commissions, so maybe that will be able to get me some more savings too.
